At Culver Yard, TAP Electric is advancing critical resiliency and signal modernization work in coordination with the MTA, focused on strengthening long-term reliability for the F Line.
This Sandy replacement project includes upgrades to signals, switches, stops, cable, track, negative and traction power systems throughout the yard. Current operations are focused on installing field equipment, signal cases, submersible track switches, stop machines, and new relay racks, while teams inside the relay room continue wiring new control relays and associated systems integration.
Designed with future resiliency in mind, the project incorporates submersible field equipment and flood-resistant infrastructure intended to better protect critical systems from the impacts of severe weather and flooding conditions. Day-to-day operations also include extensive cable installation, with crews running new signal cable from the messenger and cable tray system across cable bridges and through underground conduits to field devices throughout the yard.
Working within an active CBTC rail environment requires careful coordination and precise execution, with specialized flagging operations implemented during limited work windows outside of peak rush hour service. TAP Electric continues coordinating closely with track, civil, ironworker, and lead abatement teams to keep progress advancing across multiple active work areas.
This work is helping modernize critical infrastructure at Culver Yard while supporting safer, more reliable service for years to come.
