Exciting work in progress at Penn Station!

TAP Electric is proud to be part of the ongoing modernization efforts at Penn Station, currently in the process of delivering 81 new Solari passenger information display replacements. Many of these original displays have been in service since 2002, with some components dating back to the early 1980s.

The new high-definition TFT-based “stretched monitors” will replace outdated systems and significantly improve communication for passengers. These upgraded displays are being integrated with a modern Ethernet network, replacing the older twisted pair wiring system.

Penn Station built over 100 years ago, has undergone numerous additions and major updates throughout its history. Working within this evolving infrastructure requires careful coordination, and our team has ensured that each new display is installed to avoid interference with existing conduit runs and other active systems within the terminal.

Once complete, these new displays will provide enhanced functionality, including the ability to broadcast full emergency messages and high-definition video and images on expanded screen sizes, vastly improving visibility and communication across platforms.

Penn Station operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is the busiest passenger transportation facility in North America, serving more than 630,000 passengers on 1,345 trains per day. This level of activity makes the Long Island Rail Road’s coordination in securing essential work windows invaluable to the success of this project.
